We are delighted to announce the Aero Club of India (ACI) as our associate partner for the Upcoming DELTAs-2022 Conference, June 22-26 2022. The onboarding of ACI is sure to make our spirit and enthusiasm soar even higher!

Founded in 1927, the central objective of formation of the Club was to encourage flying as a sport and to create promote 'air-awareness' among the youth of India. The Club aimed towards development of sport aviation and astronautical activities throughout India. Aero Club of India has been an active member of Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) since 1950. ACI is the highest body for the Flying Clubs and Aero Sports organizations in India, which are engaged in General Aviation, Gliding, Skydiving, Paragliding & Hang Gliding, Ballooning, Microlight & Paramotors, Aeromodelling, Drones, Rotorcraft, Amateur Built Aircraft, etc.

Announcement: Model Airship Regatta

We are thrilled to announce that the Model Airship Regatta planned to be organized just after the conference (25-26 Jun'22) is now an FAI certified international competition.

The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, FAI - The World Air Sports Federation, is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). FAI establishes regulations for air sporting events, organized by its members worldwide. The development is sure to bring together air sports participants from across the globe, who would share the delight of flying airships, and gain invaluable experiences.

Advantages of Airships Over Other Means of Transport

Getting to know the plethora of advantages airships have over other means of transportation is the biggest motivation behind organisation of the DELTAs-2022 Conference.

There are several advantages of airships over other modes of transport, especially aerial transport. They consume less fuel and silently complete their journey. They can be easily powered by solar energy as well as electricity. They have potential for long flights, by the usage of solar regenerative fuel cells. They have less complex operating mechanisms. Due to lower fuel consumption, their flight range is very impressive. Until the advancements of airplanes in the late 30’s, they were the only realistic option for trans-Atlantic air transport.

Airships are extremely light and maneuverable, capable of changing direction quickly without changing speed, or even remaining stationary. This coupled with their low fuel consumption, makes them ideal for hover operations requiring long duration flights. They stay airborne with no propulsion, meaning that all the propulsion is used for forward motion. Another big advantage over an airplane is that the airship can operate with negligible infrastructure (like roads or runways to land). In-fact, they are widely touted as roadless trucking fleets.

Bearing in mind these advantages and considering their benefits in long run for a prospective green aviation future, we highly encourage heightened participation of the scientific community in the discrete field of LTA systems to contribute towards the development of a sustainable future on a whole.
